Application Process for Prospective Freshman Students

We encourage parent/s of eighth grade students to complete an application for admission using our online application form by the end of October to ensure your child will take the freshman placement exam in November.  We will continue to accept applications throughout the remainder of the school year and plan to offer the placement exam once a month starting in January if needed.  Only students who take the exam on November 7 or 14 will be eligible for the DeSales Scholarship.  The top five performers on the exam in November will be offered the DeSales Scholarship.

Click here to submit an application!  There is a $75 fee to apply.  The fee is non-refundable.

The placement exam helps us evaluate incoming freshman in reading comprehension, grammar, vocabulary, and math. These scores will be used to determine placement in college prep, honors and AP classes.

In addition to the student application, please submit an unofficial copy of your child’s records from sixth, seventh, and eighth grade (through the most recent quarter grades). Students from the following middle schools do not need to complete this process as we will get these records directly from the middle school: St. Andrew School, St. Francis Xavier, St. Michael, Fort Myers Christian.

Records should include the following:

Courses taken with completed grades given/credits earned*
Standardized testing (FCATs, ITBS, Stanford Achievement)
Documentation of any learning challenges/disabilities, including psycho-educational testing and/or IEP or 504 plans, if applicable

Copy of the Florida Immunization and Physical forms

Statement of Discipline from middle school administrator

*We understand that eighth grade records will be incomplete. A copy of the most recent eighth grade report card available will be sufficient. This information is necessary before an admissions decision can be made, and would be helpful if the information is received prior to the date your child is tested.

Admission decisions cannot be made until all required material is submitted.

Please submit required materials within the online application if possible.  If not, you can bring or mail information to the following address.  Documents may also be scanned and emailed to Jill.Rhone@bvhs.org.

Financial Aid

We realize many families want their children to attend Verot, but in some cases the full cost of tuition is prohibitive.  Assistance is awarded based upon financial need. To qualify, parents must file a financial aid application with the school's Finance Office.  Annually, approximately 40% of Verot families receive some level of school sponsored tuition assistance. No athletic or other extracurricular scholarships are awarded.

Except in unique circumstances, transfer students (students currently attending high school at another institution and applying for admission to Bishop Verot for grades 10-12) are not eligible for tuition assistance. Families of these students should meet with the Director of Finance prior to submitting an application.

Bishop Verot Catholic High School makes use of FACTS Grant & Aid Assessment to help us evaluate requests for financial aid. The application for financial aid should be filled out prior to March 18, 2016 for priority consideration. Families are encouraged to file on-line at
https://online.factsmgt.com/signin/3V1FB. All decisions on Assistance are made by Bishop Verot Catholic High School. FACTS does not supply any funding for assistance.

If you would like more information about the company, feel free to visit their Web site at www.factsmgt.com. FACTS works with nearly 5,000 educational institutions and over a million families each year, helping them achieve their goals. They have been in business since 1986 and specialize in working with schools like ours.

Step Up For Students provides K-12 scholarships for qualifying school children.  Students who qualify may receive more than $5,000 for private school tuition.  A separate $500 transportation scholarship is also available to attend a public school in another county.   Please click here to learn more.

Please contact Mrs. Kathleen Houghton, Finance Director at Bishop Verot, for additional information (239) 274-6703.

Frequently Asked Questions

Class sizes. The student-teacher ratio at Bishop Verot is 18:1. The type of course (college prep, honors, or AP) and the subject (history, science, english, world language or math) can both influence class size. Classes may have anywhere between 10 and 30 students. Most classes average 23 students.

What is the dress code? Bishop Verot students have many options with the standardized attire. Students wear a polo with the 'BV' emblem. In addition, male students may wear either relaxed fit shorts or khaki pants, while female students may wear either khaki pants or capris.

Technology.  Please click on the technology tab on our website to learn more about our 1:1 iPad Program.

How does the freshman admissions process work?  Prospective freshmen begin the application process at the start of their 8th grade year. In October, we invite students to come and visit our campus during Verot Visit days to experience the school community and learn more about the academic experience. During this month parents typically begin submitting applications and required documents in preparation for the November placement exam. This exam, along with supporting academic documents, typically determine the academic track a student will be on during their freshman year.

Transfer admissions. Upperclassmen transferring into Bishop Verot generally apply throughout the year. While we do not require transfer students to take the placement exam, we do require supporting academic documents and a statement of discipline from the student's previous school.

What type of academic courses does Bishop Verot offer? Bishop Verot is a college preparatory school. We have three academic tracks - college preparatory, honors, and Advanced Placement. We currently offer 14 Advanced Placement courses in addition to the Dual Enrollment agreement through Florida SouthWestern State College and Florida Gulf Coast University.

What type of scholarships and financial aid are available? Both scholarships and need-based financial aid are available. The five highest scoring students on the November placement examination are recognized as De Sales Scholars. They are awarded half tuition scholarships for four years. Tuition assistance is available for families that qualify. Our online tuition assistance application is available through FACTS Management beginning in December.

Bishop Verot is a Catholic High School. Do you need to be Catholic in order to attend? No, while Bishop Verot is a Catholic school, approximately 30% of the current enrollment is non-Catholic.

Does Bishop Verot offer bus service? As a private school, Bishop Verot has no bus service available. Because we have students from many different areas of the county, we have set up an extensive carpool program, which matches students' transportation needs. Parents can register for the carpool by filling out an online form in the summer. This list is emailed to participating families.
